Without the MPSC’s approval of this sale, that could mean removal of the dams and devastation for our property values and local wealth.

As a realtor, I know the dams and waterways are the reason people live and vacation here. Michigan has to approve this sale for the future of our communities.

If you do not move forward and get this contract signed, Consumers may decide to remove the dams and the economic ramifications and natural devastation would be huge. The sobering effects on the thousands of people living on and around these dams would be horrific. Many families have built their lives on these backwaters for over a hundred years. They would lose huge values on their homes and businesses would lose revenue and may have to close their doors.

If the dams were to go away, I believe that it would just gut our community. Our whole future is at stake.

Chief of the Croton Township Fire Department and Resident Near Croton Dam

If these dams were removed and the reservoirs drained, the impact would be devastating. Campgrounds and marinas could close. Businesses like the ones I previously owned would struggle to survive. Property values would suffer, and our entire community would be permanently changed.

The Rogers and Hardy Dams are vital parts of our community. They help create the lakes, rivers and trails which foster the outdoor recreation that makes this place so special, and they support livelihoods and local businesses. Our community needs the long-term stability that this sale offers, and the MPSC should approve this sale.

Getting rid of the dam would open a Pandora’s Box of dangerous consequences. The Calkins Bridge Dam and Lake Allegan are the reasons many of us live in this area, and the MPSC must listen to the neighbors who live around these dams. The Confluence Hydro team has shown us they are committed to Michigan and these dams. The MPSC should approve this sale.
